Royal Bank of Canada Oh RBC, now everybody knows time’s running out and each projection shows clips of our future, dying by degrees. All for the bottom line of RBC. None shall be spared when your work is complete—200 Bay Street emptied by the heat, fear and starvation rising with the seas, seeds of disaster sown by RBC. Too soon that final audit will begin: each piece of pipeline multiplies thy sin, every account sounds your complicity. Divest from fossil fuels, oh RBC.

Budget Delegations Manitoba Heavy Construction squats upon city hall’s chest, squeezing the air from the ways we might care for each other in the days we have left. The mayor leads a prayer to ignore the poor and push the afflicted away, while senior advisors with sharpened incisors distribute their spread sheets that say: roads and police and police and roads, roads and police and police and roads, roads and police and police and roads—that’s where most of our money goes. Councillor C posts a murderous meme and a couple half-hearted denials, while Councillor B and Councillor D trade their tight white-supremacist smiles. The Free Press reporter’s attention gets shorter than the piece they will hide online—another pastiche of a press-release framing that everything’s going to be fine for roads and police and police and roads, roads and police and police and roads, roads and police and police and roads—that’s where most of our money goes. No room for research, no food or drink, no thinking something new. No time for anyone trying to show us what love can do. But outside a circle’s surrounding a light and smudging the budget away, and singing goodbyes as smoke hits the eyes of what’s left of a Winnipeg workday. And we will be here next year.
3.
All My Ex-Boyfriends Are You Marcel, Jason, Umberto, and Sean. William, Elbert, Nathaniel, and Ron. Steven with a “ph” and Steven with a “v” got married and didn’t invite me. Ornolf had an umlaut and a problem with pills. The Phillips never let me call them Phils. Channing had a charming straight edge tattoo. Now all my ex-boyfriends are you. Pablo was probably not suicide. Connor got a rare form of cancer and died. Karl from Kelowna and the dentist, Deshawn, were the only ones I ever cheated on. I remember Randolph when it rains in the fall, but never think of Andrew at all. Gabriel ghosted me after he knew that all my ex-boyfriends are you. That’s why I guard every door you meow to get through, now that all my ex-boyfriends are you.
